The government has released further information for employers regarding the eligibility criteria for businesses wishing to apply for The Australian Apprentice Wage Subsidy.

This incentive announced in late October 2018 and is targeted at regional and rural small businesses offering a $37,000 wage subsidy for apprentices.

The Australian Apprentice Wage Subsidy is available to 3 employer groups as follows:

– Small enterprises – with less than 20 staff
– Medium and large enterprises – who have never previously employed an Australian Apprentice; or have not employed and Australian Apprentices in the 3 years prior to 1/1/19
– Group Training Organisations – the host employer must meet the Small Enterprise eligibility criteria

Other eligibility criteria:

– New sign ups and commencements from 1st January 2019
– Must be undertaking a full-time Cert III or IV qualification that leads to an occupation listed on the NSNL at the date of commencement
– The Workplace must be in an eligible Rural and Regional Postcode
– Be employed under a modern award for their occupation
– Meet all the Primary Eligibility criteria for Australian Apprentice Incentives Program
