Listed below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions by Employers regarding Australian Apprenticeships and Traineeships.
What wages do I pay?
Wages for full-time, part-time and school-based apprentices and trainees vary across qualifications and are determined by a number of industrial arrangements and awards.
To find out what wages and employment conditions apply contact Wageline on 1300 363 264 or visit www.workplaceauthority.gov.au
What is the difference between an apprenticeship and traineeship?
A traineeship is usually completed in about 12 months whereas an apprenticeship commonly is between two and fours years long depending on the occupation.
Both provide structured, yet flexible training and workplace learning and the opportunity to learn relevant work skills and achieve recognised qualifications.
Who will do the training?
A Registered Training Organisation (RTO) will be nominated at the time of sign up to complete the training. If you are not sure who to nominate, AMA Apprenticeship and Traineeship Services can provide advice to help you make the right choice for your business.
How will the training be provided?
This will depend on the qualification being undertaken.
In most circumstances Trainees are provided with workbooks to complete at their own pace. It is expected that the trainee will use normal occupational tasks as evidence of their competency in the traineeship. They will receive regular visits from the RTO to undertake assessment and provide feedback.
Apprentices will be expected to attend either block or day release at a Training Centre of TAFE college. This means that, on average, an Apprentice will spend 4 days per week at work, and 1 day per week in formal training.
How do I find an apprentice or trainee?
AMA Apprenticeship and Traineeship Services do not directly recruit apprentices or trainees for employers. Options available include Job Services Australia and Group Training Organisations.
Apprenticentre also operate a jobs board for employers to advertise vacancies for apprenticeship or traineeship positions. Contact 13 19 54 for more information or to register.
